In the Garden
This is the season the weeds really take off, so make sure to allot some time to catch the smaller weeds before they establish broader root systems. This will help keep the labor down a good deal and make gardening more enjoyable in the long run. Now is also the time to plant winter squash and cowpeas. Planted together as companions, the cowpeas will provide extra nitrogen availability for the squash, and also some shade from the late season temps and mid-summer sun.
